Book Launched: Anatomy of South Africa
Political commentator Richard Calland’s new book, Anatomy of South Africa - Who Holds the Power? was launched last night at Relish, a restauraunt-cum-bar which afforded decent wine, tepid hors d’oeuvres, a great view of the sunset over Lion’s Head, and rather cramped quarters for the 100+ crowd that turned out.
Said crowd, though big, was not as exciting as one had hoped, comprising as it did mainly those of whom the description “not holding power” would be quite apt. After being introduced by the MD of Struik Publishers, Steve Connolly, who published his book (via the Zebra imprint), Calland waved around a copy of Anatomy of Britain Today (first edition 1965), which, though outdated, clearly carries force enough to extract homage four decades down the line.
Spotted: Lala Camerer, Shaun Johnson, Alison Tilley, Rheina Epstein, David Schalkwyk, Collette Hersenberg, Patricia de Lille, Lance Greyling, Judge Siraj Desai, Tony Weaver, Jeremy Boraine, Thabani Maseku, Mike Wills, Jeremy Seekings, Nicoli Nattrass, Craig Tyson, Nodi Murphy, the filmmaking twins Jean and Zunaid Meeran, and Calland’s wife Gaye Davis.
